October has arrived in Idaho Falls, which means crisp fall air, colorful leaves, pumpkins, costumes, and plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the community! If you’re looking for something fun to do with the kids this month, Idaho Falls has no shortage of activities to fill your October calendar.
Whether your family loves animals, science, arts and crafts, or everything Halloween, there are plenty of ways to make the most of the season.
🦒 Boo at the Zoo
One of the biggest family-friendly Halloween events of the month is Boo at the Zoo on Saturday, October 17. Hosted at the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park, this “merry not scary” Halloween event is designed with families in mind. Kids can dress up in their favorite costumes, explore the Zoo after dark, enjoy thousands of lights and sculptures, participate in activities, and collect treats from community vendors.
It’s a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit without being too spooky for younger children!
🔭 Explore the Museum of Idaho
October is also a great time to check out what’s happening at the Museum of Idaho. On October 3, the Museum will celebrate the grand opening of its new Galileo: Scientist. Astronomer. Visionary. exhibition. The exhibit features hands-on experiences that explore science, astronomy, motion, gravity, and simple machines.
It’s a great option for families who want to combine a day of fun with a little learning.
🧘♀️ Glow Yoga for Kids
Looking for something a little different? On October 8, kids ages 3–12 can participate in Glow Yoga for Kids downtown. Participants will stretch, balance, and move through a fun glow-themed experience inside the Galileo exhibition. Glow sticks are provided, making this a unique activity for kids and parents to enjoy together.
📚 Get Spooky at the Library
The Idaho Falls Public Library is getting into the Halloween spirit throughout October as well. Families can participate in the library’s Trick or Treat Reading Challenge all month long. Kids can also check out the library’s Halloween Parade on October 28, where children can come dressed in costume, listen to spooky stories, sing songs, and trick-or-treat throughout the library.
There are also regular family programs, STEM activities, storytimes, and creative programs happening throughout the month.
